Google Cloud Is Forming Web 3 Team to Serve Developers In Blockchain
Tech giant Google is making a move into the world on Web 3 as the crypto market continues to get mature thereby getting mainstream acceptance. Thus, by capitalizing on the surging popularity of crypto, Google’s cloud unit is building a team to serve developers running blockchain applications.
In an email to employees last Friday, Amit Zavery, a vice president at Google Cloud, said that their goal is to make Google Cloud Platform as the first choice for blockchain developers. He further added: “While the world is still early in its embrace of Web3, it is a market that is already demonstrating tremendous potential with many customers asking us to increase our support for Web3 and Crypto related technologies”.
Supporters of Web 3 have been focusing on decentralized and peer-to-peer systems to build the next generation of internet. However, this move will challenge some of the biggest centralized tech institutions such as Amazon, Microsoft and others.
Google seeks to offer back-end cloud services to developers interested in building their own Web 3 software as the company battles for market share. In an interview to CNBC, Zavery said: “We’re not trying to be part of that cryptocurrency wave directly. We’re providing technologies for companies to use and take advantage of the distributed nature of Web3 in their current businesses and enterprises.”
As the Google cloud unit plans to form an in-house team by building Web 3 tools, Google is taking the next steps. Earlier this year in January, Google cloud unit was also working on building a Digital Assets team exploring ways at how customers can pay using digital assets.
Similarly, Google Cloud might be working on a system other companies could employ a system that makes it easy for users to explore blockchain data. It also seeks to simplify the process of building and running blockchain nodes to validate and record transactions.
This marks the first major foray by Google to serve the growing number of Web 3 developers. On the other hand, Google ranks third after Amazon and Microsoft when it comes to having its share in the cloud market.
Offering services to the next generation technology can help it bridge the gap by onboarding early entrants in the market.
