Vitalik Buterin Donates Millions to SENS Research Foundation for Anti-Ageing Research
While we have heard stories about the use of cryptocurrencies for several notorious and illicit activities, this one news will certainly cheer you up as crypto has found its use for a noble cause this time.
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has donated around $2.4 million in Ether tokens to SENS Research Foundation (SRF). SRF is a non-profit organization which focuses on research, development, and promote comprehensive regenerative medicine solutions anti-ageing diseases.
The SENS Research Foundation was co-founded in 2009 by a group of five scientists - Michael Kope, Aubrey de Grey, Jeff Hall, Sarah Marr and Kevin Perrottte.
With this donation, Vitalik Buterin enters the league of prominent personalities interested in life extension technology along with the likes of Amazon’s Jeff Bezos.
While commenting on his latest association with the SENS Foundation, Buterin said: “I’ve been a fan of Aubrey’s work since I first read Ending Aging when I was a teenager, and I am happy to have been blessed with the opportunity to personally support SENS’s efforts. Their focus on creating solutions to the diseases of aging, one of the greatest problems facing humanity, is very much in line with my goal to positively impact the lives of millions of people around the world.”
SENS CEO Mike Kope has thanked Buterin for his generosity saying “SENS Research Foundation is honored to be the recipient of Vitalik’s incredible generosity. This was his second donation to us and his support is critical to SENS Research Foundation’s expansion of our programs. Our work to cure the diseases of aging is dependent on the generous support of our donors and we appreciate his support tremendously.”
In another good news of crypto donation for a noble cause, the Pineapple Fund has recently donated $5 million to the Open Medicine Foundation (OMF). The OMF is based out of California and this too is a non-profit organization which conducts research into several different types of chronic complex diseases.
OMF founder and president Linda Tannenbaum while commenting on the received donation said: “This significant donation will help OMF accelerate and expand current research into ME (myalgic encephalomyelitis), CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) and other chronic complex diseases and to keep fighting for a better future for patients.”
