Atari Teams Up With Animoca Brand To Create Blockchain Based Games
Atari and Animoca Brand have once again reaffirmed the fact that blockchain has a role to play in the gaming industry. The two have joined forces as they seek to create a blockchain version of Rollercoaster Tycoon Touch and Goon Squad Games.
Atari-Animoca Blockchain Collaboration
Atari embracing blockchain technology does not come as a surprise. The iconic video game brand understands the potential impact of emerging technology. For starters, the technology should lead to a verifiable way of appraising digital sets and prevent fraud in the multi-billion gaming sector.
Under the terms of the agreement, Atari is to take an upfront consideration of $250,000 as part of the licensing deal. Animoca Brand is to share with Atari a minimum guarantee in terms of its share of sales. Animoca is also to share revenues from the blockchain games created after the first $500,000 of gross revenue.
In addition, Animoca Brands is to produce and publish blockchain versions of the two games worldwide. The excluded markets under the agreement are China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. The two-blockchain games will also come with non-fungible tokens. The term of the agreement extends to March 31, 2022.
“We are proud and delighted to enter into this long-term and strategic relationship with Animoca Brands, which also allows us to become a shareholder in one of the most exciting innovators in the world of decentralized gaming. We hope that this agreement paves the way to further cooperation on other Atari products,” Frederic Chesnais, the CEO of Atari.
Blockchain Games
Rollercoaster Tycoon Touch is a game that revolves around gamers trying to build and manage amusement parks. The goal while playing the game is to try and attract more visitors as a way of ensuring the continued success of the park. The game has so far amassed over 19 million downloads.
Goon Squad, which is also part of the deal, involves mobsters. Gamers, in this case, are tasked with the responsibility of rising from lowly goons to respected godfathers in the game. The game involves playing card battle and maneuvering the underground criminal world.
In addition to coming up with blockchain versions of the two games, Atari and Animoca Brands are also to join forces in exploring opportunities in the gaming industry. The two also intend to explore blockchain technology to see how it can enhance their operations.
