UNICEF France To Now Accept Donations In Digital Currencies
UNICEF France - The United Nations humanitarian body for children welfare has announced that it will start accepting donations in digital currencies. As per the official announcement, the nine cryptocurrencies which will be accepted include Bitcoin, Ripple, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, EOS, Stellar, Litecoin, Monero, and Dash.
Apart from crypto assets like Ripple, EOS, and Stellar, which are non-mineable, users can also contribute by donating their computer power to mine the other six digital assets directly in the UNICEF France’s wallets.
While commenting on this announcement, UNICEF France director Sébastien Lyon stated: “Cryptocurrency and blockchain technology used for charitable purposes offer a new opportunity to appeal to the generosity of the public and continue to develop our operations with children in the countries of intervention.”
Earlier this year in February 2018, UNICEF France launched a campaign called GameChiangers. The campaign was launched with an initiative to help the Syrian children while asking gamers to donate their computing power to mine digital currencies. Donors were initially asked to install the Claymore mining software which was used to mine the ETH tokens. By March 31, 2018, they were able to successfully mine nearly 85 ETH.
Later in May 2018, UNICEF Australia launched a similar campaign through a dedicated website called “The Homepage”. “The HopePage allows Australians to provide help and hope to vulnerable children by simply opening the page while they are online,” explained UNICEF Australia’s Jennifer Tierney.
Note that the UNICEF Australia campaign took official permission of its visitors before using their computational power for mining. The visitors were given an additional option to donate a fix amount of processing power the can keep aside. Currently, more than 22,000 visitors are mining and donating digital assets through this platform.
