Samsung SDS to Develop Blockchain Roadmap for Seoul City Government
So far, South Korea’s stance on digital currencies and blockchain technology has been quite positive, especially when compared to other countries in the region, such as China. Now, recent reports indicate that the Seoul government is getting ready for the adoption of blockchain technology for administrative purposes.
With this in mind, Samsung SDS has recently won an order from the Seoul government to develop a roadmap on how blockchain technology can be applied for administrative use. The city government has stated that its initial plan is to apply blockchain solutions to a few municipal duties, especially those which are in charge of collecting private information from citizens.
However, South Korea has a long-term plan in mind. Reports showcase that the ultimate goal would be to implement blockchain across all of the administrative duties by the year of 2022. This includes markets such as social security, public safety and transportation. So far, it is unclear which blockchain solutions will be adopted for the purposes listed above, but once Samsung has its roadmap ready, more information will be available.
The Soul government mentioned that their plan is to grow the quality of life for their citizens, while also increasing transparency among the municipal duties of the city.
During the next five months, Samsung SDS will take a close look at the governance environment present in Soul. Then, it will come up with solutions meant to implement, and expand the use of blockchain technology across multiple areas of interest, where potential is seen. Not only this, but Samsung SDS will also design a future model for the adoption of technology, and develop a step-by-step application document.
For those who do not know, Samsung SDS is a subsidiary of the giant IT manufacturer, which is in charge of providing enterprise IT solutions. The company subsidiary has joined the EEA blockchain alliance, applied its blockchain solutions to a few local shipping firms, and is actively expanding its security solution services as well.
Based on everything that has been outlined so far, if the roadmap is ready in time, then chances are that Seoul will become the world’s first city to implement blockchain technology across its municipal duties, for lower costs, increased efficiency and transparency.
