U.S. Presidential Candidate John McAfee Feels the Country After a Scuffle With the IRS
Cryptocurrency proponent and founder of McAfee securities - John McAfee has fled the Unites States after engaging in a tax scuffle with the Internal Revenue Services (IRS). On Tuesday, McAfee posted a video on his Twitter handle saying that he’s “living in exile” in a boat after the IRS charged him for felonies for “using cryptocurrencies in criminal acts”.
John McAfee was also running for the U.S. Presidential candidacy for 2020 and accompanying him in the exile are four other members of his presidential campaign along with his wife. In a detailed message to all of his Twitter followers, McAfee said:
“We are today at war. I have not paid taxes for eight years. I have made no secret of it … Today, Jan. 22, the IRS has convened a grand jury in the state of Tennessee to charge myself, my wife, Mrs. McAfee, four of my campaign workers with unspecified IRS crimes of a felonious nature. They want to silence me. I will not allow that. I am running my campaign in exile on this boat for the duration. I will not allow them to imprison me and shut my voice down, which they will do immediately. Why? I am a flight risk. Obviously, I am in flight… Today, crypto community, we are at war, and I am on the frontlines.”
McAfee has been embroiled in several controversies in the last few months and is well-known in the crypto community for making blunt statements. McAfee calls the cryptocurrency taxation by the IRS as illegal and added that he’s “paid tens of millions already and received jack shit in services”. He says that he is currently the prime target for the tax agencies and has even dared them to come after him.
“I’m done making money and I live off of cash from McAfee Incorporated — My net income is negative,” McAfee detailed. I’m challenging the agency responsible for fueling our Government’s madness — the IRS. The IRS will not sit idly by. I know this. But I have prepared my entire life for this battle”.
In the video McAfee also says that he will continue to release campaign videos while on the run. He said that while he’s on run, he cannot be officially charged by the IRS. McAfee told his followers that digital currencies and privacy-coins will continue to circumvent the government.
“Every so often and very rarely a clash of old and new cultures brought about by technology changes civilization,” said McAfee. “Cryptocurrencies is one of these technologies and probably the most dramatic to have occurred in human history since the invention of fire — Because cryptocurrencies free the individual from the yoke of currency controlled by governments. Governments will not be able to collect taxes when everyone is using privacy coins.”
