Bitwise Files for Dogecoin ETF as U.S. Regulators Show Growing Crypto Acceptance

Bitwise, a prominent crypto asset manager, has recently filed an application with U.S. regulators to launch a Dogecoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), signaling growing acceptance of cryptocurrency by U.S. policymakers.

The application, filed on Tuesday, follows Bitwise's earlier efforts to create the legal foundation for the Dogecoin ETF, which it initiated last week. If approved, this fund would allow investors to gain exposure to the price fluctuations of Dogecoin, currently priced at $0.32. Dogecoin recently reached a three-year peak of $0.475 in November 2024, a period coinciding with Elon Musk's heightened social media activity about his plan for a new organization, the D.O.G.E. Exchange.

Exchange-traded funds provide investors with a way to invest in assets without directly owning them, and the recent approval of Bitcoin and Ethereum-based ETFs has spurred increased institutional investment in digital assets, with over $4 billion flowing into crypto ETFs in 2025, according to Coin Shares.

As the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) undergoes leadership changes under President Trump, many anticipate that additional crypto ETFs may soon be approved. Bitwise's application comes just days after it registered a statutory trust for the Dogecoin ETF through CSC Delaware Trust Company, setting the stage for the fund's filing.

In addition to its Dogecoin ETF proposal, Bitwise already offers two other ETFs: the Bitwise Bitcoin ETF and the Bitwise Ethereum ETF, both of which are listed on U.S. exchanges. The firm has also filed for Solana and XRP ETFs, further diversifying its crypto-based offerings. Other companies are following suit, applying to introduce similar funds that would hold a range of digital assets, including lesser-known tokens like Official Trump, Bonk, and HBAR.

The SEC typically takes up to 45 days to make an initial decision on ETF applications, with the possibility of extending the review period. The final decision is usually made within 240 days from the filing date.
