Mark Zuckerberg’s Aim for 2018 Is To Study Cryptocurrency
Social Networking guru and Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg in the latest famous personality and recognized figure to talk about cryptocurrencies. With the start of the new year 2018, Mark Zuckerberg talks about areas where he will focus the majority of her work and time over the year.
In his latest Facebook post, Mark Zuckerberg says that his aim and priority for 2018 is to fix important issues and improve the services of his social networking company. He also says that another task in his timeline is to study the “positive and negative aspects” of cryptocurrency and encryption.
Zuckerberg writes: "My personal challenge for 2018 is to focus on fixing these important issues. We won't prevent all mistakes or abuse, but we currently make too many errors enforcing our policies and preventing misuse of our tools. If we're successful this year then we'll end 2018 on a much better trajectory.”
With over a billion average daily users, the major challenge this social networking giant is currently facing is to smartly find and eliminate the fake news spreading on its platform. Moreover, Zuckerberg also points over the growing privacy concerns which too, remains as one of the most prioritized tasks.
In his long post, Zuckerberg also talks about the existing Internet is too much concentrated into the hands of big industry players which include Facebook as well. He says that this is quite working against the major purpose of the web which was to decentralize and distribute power in the hands of people.
Zuckerberg writes: “A lot of us got into technology because we believe it can be a decentralizing force that puts more power in people's hands. (The first four words of Facebook's mission have always been "give people the power".) Back in the 1990s and 2000s, most people believed technology would be a decentralizing force.”
But today, many people have lost faith in that promise. With the rise of a small number of big tech companies — and governments using technology to watch their citizens — many people now believe technology only centralizes power rather than decentralizes it.”
In order to counter these issues, Zuckerberg said that he would study cryptocurrency and its underlying decentralized blockchain technology. "There are important counter-trends to this – like encryption and cryptocurrency – that take power from centralized systems and put it back into people's hands. But they come with the risk of being harder to control. I'm interested to go deeper and study the positive and negative aspects of these technologies, and how best to use them in our services," he wrote.
It seems that as more and more people are learning about blockchain, they are getting more exposed to the potential benefits of the technology and how it plays a crucial role in the future technological growth.
