Accenture Successfully Tests DLT-powered Blockchain Management Capabilities for Software Licenses
Accenture, the global consulting and professional service giant has successfully completed its first transaction through a DLT-powered application aimed at improving the enterprise software asset management capabilities.
The new DLT-based application uses smart contract language dubbed DAML developed by blockchain startup Digital Asset. The basic aim of the software is to simplify the was software licenses are tracked. The application will model and enforce software license events throughout its entire lifecycle, right from the origination to purchase. As a result, it provides better visibility and traceability into Accenture’s suite of software licenses.
Using the Digital Asset platform, the operations team at Accenture developed the patent-pending capability, This seamlessly fits with the company’s existing software asset management (SAM) capabilities. The DLT solutions developed by DA are capable of executing several complex and multi-party business processes in a secure environment.
Melanie Cutlan, senior principal, Accenture Operations blockchain lead said: “We manage a significant portfolio of software licenses across businesses, clients and geographies, which demands relevant policies and procedures supported with the right technology. While software asset tracking and management tools have evolved, it can still be a daunting task for any large organization to manage. The power of DLT will simplify the traceability of these licenses, and, therefore, the auditing function so all can see where each license is assigned. This has the potential to save organizations millions of dollars per year in the management of their software license portfolios.”
Improper use of software or failure to comply with license can affect the brand and reputation of big organizations in a negative manner. The newly developed DLT-based software management capabilities by Accenture will help organizations to bring trust, transparency, and reduce risks to the utilization and distribution of licenses.
Chris Church, chief business development officer at Digital Asset said: “This new software asset management application shows that DAML and DLT can deliver significant operational efficiencies to use cases beyond financial services. The delivery of this application also represents a tremendous milestone for us since this is the first application built for a non-financial use case to go into production on the Digital Asset Platform.”
