Coinbase Releases WooCommerce Plugin For eCommerce Merchants To Easily Accept Crypto Payments
The popular cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase announced the release of its new WooCommerce plugin along with some other new features to facilitate online merchants and e-commerce websites to easily accept crypto payments from the global customers. The new feature has been released as part of the expansion of its Coinbase Commerce services which the crypto exchange launched earlier this year.
WooCommerce is one of the most popular eCommerce platforms on the web and for merchant using this platform, the launch of this new plugin will make it easier for them to start accepting crypto payments. Coinbase has released this plugin on its Github page with step-by-step instructions for installing it on the eCommerce website. The good thing about the WooCommerce is that it also provides a seamless integration with WordPress powered websites.
The cryptocurrency trading platform has also introduced a new functionality of directly sending Bitcoin and Litecoin using Coinbase Commerce services. It is also planning to add support for Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash. Coinbase clearly specifies that it cuts no transactions fess for user of Coinbase Commerce and allows for peer-to-peer transactions on the blockchain networks of the respective digital currencies.
Coinbase notes that embedding the payment button on a website is an very easy process involving few simple steps. It would also allow several websites for accepting donations in digital currencies. In the official blog post, Coinbase Commerce notes:
“The widely-used [WooCommerce] plugin powers more than 28% of all online stores — and all of them now have access to cryptocurrency payments from customers around the world. This increased access will lead to more widespread adoption, and ultimately, moves us closer to our goal of an open financial system.”
To ensure further expansion of the Coinbase Commerce services, the crypto-exchange has also released a Python Library for the Coinbase Commerce API. It also plans additional libraries like Node.js, Ruby, and PHP!
In addition to this, last week, Coinbase also announced the support of British pounds on its platform, meaning its UK customers can now directly purchase digital currencies while paying against fiat pounds. Before this, UK customers had to convert pounds to euro for making a purchase.
In a blog post, Coinbase UK CEO Zeeshan Feroz said that the trading platform has taken important steps towards establishing itself as a ‘trusted and compliant brand in the space’. He also elaborated further saying:
“These steps include obtaining an e-money license for our fiat operations from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), adding support for the Faster Payment Scheme, and becoming the first cryptocurrency trading platform to obtain a bank account with a major UK bank.”
The crypto exchange is also working towards adding support for Ethereum Classic (ETC) on its platform and can be finalized by the next week.
