Russian Universities Offering Courses and Master’s Degrees in Blockchain and Crypto
During the last couple of months, there has been a steady increase in the number of universities implementing blockchain technology, and offering blockchain and crypto-related courses. Now, recent reports indicate that three universities in Russia have publicly announced their plans to begin offering crypto and digital economy courses.
The Don State Technical University (DSTU) , Novosibirsk State University (NSU) and Voronezh State University will offer English courses, taught by professors from Europe, the United States and India. Two of the universities will not only offer courses, but rather degrees in blockchain technology.
The Don State Technical University, starting this September, will grant students access to two blockchain technology masters programs, focusing on crypto exchanges, DLT, intelligent informational systems, cyber security, blockchain and more. Additionally, the Voronezh State University will offer a bachelor’s degree entitled: Models and Methods for Analysing the Digital Economy.
Yet, DSTU is the only university offering courses that are named, and directly related to cryptocurrencies and exchanges. The reasoning behind this is the legislative silence undertaken by the Kremlin, in regulating digital currencies.
At this moment in time, it is unknown whether any of the three universities will also implement a blockchain-based system for diplomas and other certificates. Similar systems are used by other universities in Europe and the U.S., thus offering students and employers a quick and safe method of checking and storing university credentials, and diplomas. However, it is likely that such a system may require regulatory approval according to Russian laws.
Speaking of the country’s regulatory approach towards the crypto market, a legislative framework has been ordered by President Vladimir Putin, yet reports indicate that it may not be finalized by the end of the year, thus crossing the deadline.
Based on everything that has been outlined so far, higher-education institutions throughout the world are slowly, yet surely, looking to incorporate blockchain and crypto-related courses into their curriculums.
