Manchester United Launches 'Fantasy United': A Web3 Football Game on Tezos Blockchain
Manchester United has unveiled an innovative Web3 football game, ‘Fantasy United,’ hosted on the Tezos blockchain for the upcoming 2024/25 season. This latest initiative reflects the club's commitment to embracing cutting-edge technology to enhance fan engagement.
The highlight of ‘Fantasy United’ is the introduction of Player Trading Cards, featuring every member of the men's first team in different tiers: Classic, Rare, and Ultra-Rare. These digital collectibles are designed to evolve with real-time stats throughout the season, offering fans an immersive experience.
Supporters can use their trading cards to assemble a five-player squad within the game, compete with friends, join mini-leagues involving Manchester United players, and accumulate points based on actual player performance. This feature not only brings the fantasy football experience to life but also strengthens the connection between fans and their favorite players.
“Player Trading Cards allow United fans to collect the whole men’s first team squad, to see those collectibles evolve throughout the season as games are played and goals are scored, and have the ability to play those cards in an exciting fantasy football game,” explained Ronan Joyce, Manchester United's director of digital innovation.
The collaboration with Tezos, a leader in blockchain technology, is an extension of the successful partnership that previously introduced ‘The Devils,’ Manchester United's initial digital collection. This ongoing relationship aims to cultivate a vibrant and interactive fan community through dynamic digital features.
Sunil Singhvi, head of culture at Trilitech, the Tezos R&D Hub, emphasized, “Player Trading Cards and Fantasy United is an innovative use of blockchain technology to enable United fans to have a deeper connection with their favorite club. Through dynamically updating collectibles, supporters will be able to cheer on their heroes and watch how the season develops.”
For £3 per pack of seven, fans can purchase these Player Trading Cards. Owners of ‘The Devils’ collection have the privilege of early access to these new digital assets.
In summary, Manchester United's ‘Fantasy United’ game on the Tezos blockchain represents a significant leap forward in fan interaction, blending the excitement of fantasy football with the evolving world of blockchain-based collectibles.
