The Silence of “Hawk Tuah”: Meme Coin Fallout Sparks Blame Game Among Launch Partners
It’s been nearly two weeks since influencer Hailey Welch, known as the “Hawk Tuah” girl, went offline following the chaotic debut of her HAWK meme coin. Amid accusations of insider collusion and rug-pulling, Welch has stayed silent, leaving her launch partners to shoulder the fallout—and now, the blame.
The drama began earlier this month when Welch’s HAWK coin experienced a rapid pump-and-dump, wiping out investors and sparking outrage. Welch, facing heated criticism in an X Spaces discussion, abruptly announced she was logging off to sleep, saying, “See you guys tomorrow.” That tomorrow has yet to arrive, as Welch hasn’t posted on X, Instagram, or TikTok since.
But silence isn’t universal. OverHere, a crypto platform central to HAWK’s creation, broke its own quiet streak with a late-night thread on Monday titled “The Truth.” Once dismissive of concerns about HAWK’s crash as mere “FUD” (fear, uncertainty, doubt), OverHere now admits those fears were justified—just not their fault.
The Blame Shifts
OverHere claims they took no profits or fees from HAWK, pointing the finger at another key figure in the coin’s design: a mysterious individual known as “Doc Hollywood.” According to OverHere, Hollywood, tasked with designing the token, disappeared when challenges mounted, forcing the team to take on responsibilities beyond their control.
This breakdown, OverHere argues, led to the token’s failure to meet key launch promises. While stopping short of calling the project a rug pull, they highlighted a lack of “truth and transparency” on the part of Hollywood and Welch as central issues.
A Call for Accountability
In its statement, OverHere admitted some fault—not for malfeasance but for trusting unreliable partners and failing to speak out sooner. The group ended with an appeal to Welch, urging her to return and restore “truth, transparency, [and] trust.”
Yet, as OverHere pleads for answers, Welch has remained conspicuously absent. With her accounts dormant for nearly 13 days, the question lingers: Will the “Hawk Tuah” girl ever wake up to address the collapse of her meme coin, or will her silence become the defining legacy of HAWK?
